The Consorci Institut D’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS) is a public research centre dedicated to translational research in the field of biomedicine. Its mission is to integrate state of the art basic research and quality clinical research. Founded in 1996, IDIBAPS is formed by the Government of Catalonia, the University of Barcelona’s Faculty of Medicine (UB), the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona (HCB) and the Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques de Barcelona of the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (IIBB-CSIC). As such, HCB and IDIBAPS are affiliated entities. IDIBAPS aims to ensure that results obtained in laboratories can be effectively used to benefit patients, improving people’s health. IDIBAPS performs translational research, from bench to bedside. Related to this activity, IDIBAPS occupies the first position in the Spanish ranking made by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Competitiveness (ISCIII) that aims to classify the translational research institutes for its excellence in Spain.
Hospital Clínic de Barcelona (HCB) – affiliated Entity – is a university tertiary hospital located in Barcelona. It is a public institution with a long reputation of excellence in care provision, training and research at national and international level. HCPB is a community hospital that employs around 4000 workers (23% doctors, 55% nurses and 22% clerical and other supportive staff). HCB keeps the leader position, performing Living Donors Transplants for solid organs kidney and liver and ABO incompatible kidney transplantation. It has been working in defining recommendation and common terms in aspects such as: protection, security, legislation, ethical and registry in collaboration with different partners in European project: European Living Donation and Public Health – EULID (2007 – 2009), European Living Donor Psychosocial Follow-up – ELIPSY (2009 – 2012) and LIDOBS conference (2014) co-funded from the European Union as well with Nationals partners in three different FIS projects (2011 – ongoing) co-funded from the Instituto de Salud Carlos III. In the Join action ACCORD coordinated by “Organización de Trasplantes – ONT” the HCB has an active role as collaborating partner.
Within the project, IDIBAPS will be represented with the Transplant Assessorial Unit, Medical Direction, kidney transplant physicians and nephrologists and experts working in the LIDOBS network.
